The Reason for De-Sludging

The main reason for removal of semi-solid oily sludge in the storage tanks is to increase the storage areas and carrying capacity, and the increases in pumping and transfer rate. The de-sludging operation increases the operating efficiency of vessels, Some of the purposes are:

  1. Recover the value of the treatment of hydrocarbons contained in sludge before disposal
  2. Minimize pollution from spilliage and leakage
  3. Eliminate disruption of refinery processing
  4. Or minimize re-contamination of product
  5. Maintain maximum crude/ fuel oil storage capacity and transportation
